Meet the Lab ยป Solar Panels

A clean and sustainable way to generate electricity for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

Solar panels, also known as photovoltaic (PV) panels, convert sunlight into electricity and are at the forefront of renewable energy technology, offering a clean and sustainable way to generate electricity for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. Solar photovoltaic panels and systems are increasingly becoming more affordable and efficient.

Potential Energy Savings

They lower your home’s dependence on electric supply and make it more resilient, especially when used to charge a battery storage system like they are on the Benefication Lab.

How They Work

The basic operation of solar panels involves several key components. The core of a solar panel is a semiconductor material, usually made of silicon, with a specially treated surface. When sunlight strikes the surface of the solar panel, photons from the sunlight knock electrons loose from the atoms in the semiconductor material, creating an electric current. Metal conductive plates on the sides of the panel collect this current and transfer it to wires, forming a direct current (DC) of electricity.

An inverter converts the DC electricity into alternating current (AC) to make the electricity generated by solar panels usable for household or grid applications. AC is the standard form of electricity used in homes and businesses. Once converted, the AC electricity can power household appliances, lighting, and other electrical devices or feed back into the grid for others to use.

Benefits
  • Solar energy is a renewable and inexhaustible source of power. Solar panels can continuously produce electricity as long as the sun continues shining, reducing reliance on finite fossil fuels and contributing to energy security.
  • Solar panels produce electricity without emitting greenhouse gases or air pollutants, making them an environmentally friendly option. We can significantly reduce carbon emissions, combat climate change, and improve air quality by utilizing solar energy.
  • Solar panels can provide energy independence and cost savings to homeowners and businesses. Once installed, solar panels can significantly reduce electricity bills or even generate surplus electricity that can be sold to the grid, creating potential revenue streams.
