Resource Innovations and RUSH University Medical Center create a five-year EV charging strategic plan, positioning the hospital as a leader in workplace charging solutions.

CHICAGO, IL – Resource Innovations (RI), a leader in transportation electrification, is excited to announce its partnership with RUSH University Medical Center (RUSH) and the creation of a five-year electric vehicle (EV) charging strategic plan, an engagement that concluded in December 2024. This collaboration helped redefine sustainable mobility at RUSH, leveraging RI's expertise in EV charging, site development, and fleet electrification.

RI has extensive experience in planning and executing community, fleet, and workplace EV charging projects, providing charging and fleet electrification plans to organizations and municipalities, designing and implementing vehicle-to-everything (V2X) programs, and designing utility-driven electric mobility grant programs that promote community electrification efforts. Currently, RI is implementing V2X programs in the northeast and Chicago, with a focus on vehicle-to-grid (V2G) for school districts. The company also leads the implementation of several e-mobility grant programs throughout California, Washington, and Oregon.

Resource Innovations' Transportation Electrification team members discuss EV charging plans with RUSH University Medical Center staff.

"The RI team partnered closely with RUSH University Medical Center last year to take their EV charging infrastructure to the next level, which will support the dedicated hospital staff members as well as visitors," said Kelly Helfrich, Vice President of Transportation Electrification at RI. "Our goal was to increase EV miles driven across staff, students, visitors, and fleet operations. We collaborated with RUSH to craft a charging strategy tailored to their needs and operational goals across a variety of parking lots and structures—one that meets today's demands and anticipates growth in EV adoption among their stakeholders and the broader community."

During the partnership, RI conducted a thorough analysis of RUSH's existing EV infrastructure and parking facilities, engaged with key stakeholders across the organization, and evaluated available funding opportunities, market trends, technology, and regulatory considerations. RI supported the vendor and location selection processes for guests, staff, and future fleet charging. RI also supported RUSH with the deployment of an EV charging pilot program and supported the rebate application to ComEd to offset the cost of its investments.

“Working with RI over the course of the past year has accelerated RUSH’s decarbonization efforts," said RUSH’s Director of Environmental Sustainability, Ian Hughes. "Through this partnership, the RI team catalyzed a successful EV charging pilot program, identified clear and strategic opportunities for future charging expansion, and helped us bring all stakeholders to the table to align around our goals. This roadmap provides RUSH with a clear vision for maximizing electric miles driven and supporting fleet electrification, while also maintaining the flexibility to adapt the plan over time to meet the evolving needs of our staff, students, visitors, and fleet in the future.”

RI is proud to have contributed to this transformative project with RUSH University Medical Center, demonstrating its dedication to advancing sustainable transportation solutions.
